About You

The Breaking Point

The situation has gotten bad enough that you need a therapist right away.

After doing a Google search, you become even more stressed from all of the therapeutic options out there. And, just before your eyes glaze over, you come across my website.

You read, “Live Better.” With a look of optimism, you continue reading.

You become curious and wonder…

“Is she someone who believes there’s hope for me and my situation… someone focused on my healing? Will she challenge me to be a better version of myself? Can she provide me with the tools and insight to live a better life?”

“Can I trust her? I know people… people know me. I can’t afford to have my business in the streets… HIPAA or no HIPAA! She needs to be real with me as well. I don’t want another person telling me what they think I want to hear.”

“Can she relate with my life experiences without judging me? She can’t be side-eyeing me when I start sharing my life story.”

I have a fierce belief that no matter what you’re facing, there’s hope for you and your situation.

For many years, I’ve been helping individuals and couples work through issues that seemed hopeless to them at the beginning.

I’m positive I can do the same for you.

My counseling and coaching style is vibrant, enthusiastic, and entertaining.

Treatment consists of researched and evidence-based therapy approaches that are solution-oriented, affirming, respectful, and full of hope.

Your process of becoming whole starts the time you decide to call or schedule online. As you make your way through the lobby and are greeted by my friendly receptionist, you’ll find yourself feeling more at ease.

By the time we’re halfway through our first session, any apprehension about being vulnerable, transparent, or candid fades.

You’re feeling safe to speak about your concerns and desires.

As we continue to work together, you’ll discover that small changes in the way you think, feel, and act will lead to big changes such as overcoming limiting beliefs, unhealthy habits, and toxic influences.

We all have a story.

My journey into counseling and coaching began a few years after I graduated from Oakwood University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. I was a young, naive, and zealous math teacher eager to share all the knowledge I had previously digested.

To my dismay, many of my students were so preoccupied with various life stressors that learning a math equation was the last thing on their minds.

After having several parent-teacher conferences, I found out that more than a handful were internalizing their parents’ issues.

It all started to make sense.

My young masterminds were coming to school expressing anger, irritation, or sadness they experienced at home.

Their parents were stressed out – and they followed suit.

If any learning was going to take place, their emotional needs had to be met first.

I began to make empathy, encouragement, and conflict resolution just as important in my classroom as the subject matter. Before I knew it, confidence levels, grades, and behaviors improved considerably.

I decided to pursue a graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy.

I’d be lying if I said going back to school while working full-time and raising three teen-aged children was a walk in the park. It most certainly was not.

The truth is, I faced a myriad of challenges and hardships. However, I remained committed to my goal of making a difference. I’m extremely thankful that I did!

Today I am the founder and owner of a thriving private practice dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families live better lives.

I’m not always at the office, though.

When I’m not in session, I love spending time with my three adult children, friends, and family. I enjoy attending jazz concerts, playing cards (Bid Whist, Rook, and Spades), reading, listening to music, enhancing my shoe collection, walking on nature trails, traveling, and working in my yard.

I have to say, it’s a rewarding feeling to know that my dream of making a difference became a reality.

I combined years of education, life experiences, and established expertise to offer you an unforgettable, tailored therapeutic experience.

When we live better, we experience healthier and happier families!

My mission as a licensed psychotherapist (aka – talk therapist) and certified relationship coach is to help you live better.

What My Clients Have Said

I have been very pleased with the counseling services I received from Ms. Scott. She is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and patient. I looked for this type of therapist for some time and I am so grateful that I was able to connect with her. She has provided support and encouragement during one of the most difficult periods of my life. What has made Ms. Scott truly special for me was not only her ability to assist and guide with support, but also her impact on my self-confidence. She simply explained and effectively showed me that I deserve more. That for me made all the difference.

Lori made me feel comfortable enough to open up almost immediately. She has a way of tapping into the frequency you are on and bringing you to a higher level. I always feel empowered with new tools when I leave sessions.

I was so happy to find Ms. Scott when I started my therapy journey. She has been kind, sweet, and full of solutions since the beginning. I enjoy going to my sessions knowing that she will patiently listen to me and then provide creative ways for me to cope with the concerns that I have. I have referred my friends and family to her, and they too have been very pleased. She is a jewel and I highly recommend her.

I’ve always felt so in control of my life. Then one day everything fell apart. I don’t know how it happened, but I made an appointment with Lori Scott and my whole life changed. I don’t think I believed in therapy until I met Lori. She helped me become the person that deep in my heart I knew I could be. Lori helps me feel empowered and acknowledged as a person. Honestly, I don’t know how I could have survived the last two years without her.

Having Lori as a therapist has been a breath of fresh air. Her welcoming spirit and judgment free space has allowed me to speak openly and honestly about my internal struggles, my anxiety, my marriage, and my past. Through my sessions with her, I’ve learned so much about myself, and she has provided me with strategies to use when my anxiety levels are heightened. I feel very comfortable discussing complicated and deeply personal issues. Choosing to seek support from Lori has helped me to start living my life again.

My counseling experience has been one that has made a HUGE difference in my life. I deal with people and their issues almost on a daily basis, so counseling with Ms. Scott helps me to refocus and avoid disparagement and burn out. I look forward to each appointment because I know I will leave better than I came. I leave with knowledge and tools that work.
–HC

I didn’t know much about therapy before starting sessions with Lori. I was dealing with childhood traumas and a range of other issues that led to relationship troubles, anxiety, and anger. Lori has been very caring, empathetic, nonjudgmental, straight forward, and easy to open-up to. She gets to the heart of issues and provides insight and different techniques to initiate growth, strength and peace of mind. I have gained confidence in moving towards the direction I would like to take and gained awareness about the thought patterns that hold me back. I highly recommend Ms. Scott. She is passionate about helping others and it’s not just a “job.” I don’t know what I would have done without her.

I’ve been in therapy with Lori Scott for about three months now and I’m so proud of how much I’ve changed my mindset! My way of thinking is more positive, and my attitude is fierce! Lori’s phrase, “YOU MATTER!” did it all for me. I appreciate all of the encouraging life skills she’s shared with me as I continue to do my work.

Lori Scott is an awesome therapist and person with great insight on life and relationships. She made me feel great about my husband and helped me to realize that we have a beautiful marriage and with work we can have a wonderful future.

From the first-time meeting Lori, her calm demeanor and spirit was infectious. You can really tell that she’s listening closely to you by her careful responses. I knew I chose the right therapist after our first session because the feeling of anxiety was slowly easing after each thoughtful question, she asked me. Her questions forced me to think differently about each concern I had. I have tried other therapists but Lori’s approach to guiding you to the truth was most comforting. Mental health is real, and Lori has a vast amount of resources to guide you through your troubles. Thank you, Lori, for setting me on my path to Freedom!

I struggled my entire life to understand my childhood, and how it continues to impact me today as an adult. I never allowed myself to be at peace with the things that I did not understand until meeting Lori. To say that meeting her changed my life is an understatement. Her professionalism allowed me to trust her as my therapist, but her style, particularly the way she said just enough while guiding me to my healing, has meant everything to my emotional, mental, and spiritual growth. I cannot repay her for the upward trajectory that my life is on, especially since I finally feel, for the first time in my life, that I do not have to revisit the things I do not understand, and that I can and will continue to move forward. I advise anyone wanting to move forward with a deeper understanding of themselves to meet with Lori, she is definitely my therapist for life.

I’m a type A personality down to the truck I drive. My first therapy experience was with a bunch of other veterans, and I was dead set against exposing myself again. When I first met Lori, I was depressed and riddled with guilt. There was a darkness covering me that was visible to everyone around me. I was at the end of my marriage and lacked the confidence to accept it. Lori was patient and helped me to find my voice and the power to embrace it. Lori helped me to stop focusing on the negative in situations and giving it power. She helped me smile again.

Ms. Scott has made initially talking with a stranger very relaxing. She’s an active listener, very patient and has provided helpful tips and insights. The environment is very calming; putting me at ease when I enter the office. Her communication style is amazing. She allows me to express myself without me feeling forced or pressured. Ms. Scott has helped me tremendously to reach a comfortable space in my healing process. I would highly recommend her.
